Fruit Express

It is true that essential oils are an essential part of aromatherapy. But contrary to what some people think the term 'essential' no means essential as in "being a necessary part." Instead, essential oils are oils extracted from the "essence" of a plant – the parts that contain molecules of aroma of the plant.

Using different methods of extraction of the guarantees that the highest concentrations of oils can be extracted. Essential oils are derived from many different types of plants and different parts of these plants. Flowers, fruits, herbs, stems, roots, leaves, buds, flowers, seeds, nuts and even bark of trees produce some of the most fragrant essential oils and therapeutic. The essential oil extraction methods are divided into three main categories: expression, solvent extraction and distillation. The following is a summary of these extraction processes and methods.

Expression

The form of expression of essential oil extraction does not involve the use of a heat source. This is the method commonly used to extract oils from citrus peels. In earlier times, the crust is squeezed by hand and a sponge was used to collect essential oils. The fruit is removed and then with the cortex of the bone is soaked in water to make it easier to work with them. Then it would turned upside down. Turning upside down caused to cells containing the oils to be broken. Once broken, the oil is dripping on a sponge and soak nearby. When the sponge was saturated, the oils were loaded into a container so they could be decanted.

Another method expression involved sticking pins into the skin of fruits in order to damage the cells that contain essential oils. This form of extraction of expression is also used to extract essential oils from nuts and seeds and citrus rinds. Mechanical pressure is used to force oil out. The oils extracted contain water, but this water eventually evaporates, leaving only essential oils. The disadvantage of using this extraction method is that pressed oils cold spoil more quickly than those extracted using other methods. Therefore, to eliminate waste, it is important to buy these essential oils in small quantities.
