How much does a car show / automatic assignment of an employer?

I'm trying to determine a fair car / auto allowance for business use. Currently I think a monthly base rate of miles and $ / km or $ / km x is more or miles is the best approach, but have no idea what type of basic basic km / km per km / mile rate on the basis that is fair in the market today. Canada and the U.S. answers please

When I used my car for business purposes 2000 – 2004, my employer reimbursed me $ 250/month, plus 25 cents per mile. I know it's not really a current issue, but maybe it will help.
