Coal Fire and Emersion heater?

Hello I am about to move into a house that has no gas central heating, there is a fire before opencast coal that heats the house and two radiators. I've never had any experience with a charcoal fire so am looking for some advice. there an electric switch on the side of the wall by the fire and another in the kitchen on the wall. What are they? any help would be great as I am moving soon with two daughters small. Thanks Clair Bax That's absolutely wonderful thank you very much. Clair

hello, I moved to a house with a charcoal fire, I recommend a couple of scarves worth of fuel is burned all night and its still hot in the morning – although a bit dirty, so do not have cream carpets. You have to get the fire certificate for use by a speciallist fireplace. He will do tests and advice on its use. This shouldn't be too expensive if you do not need to do the job. There are standards of these days. The main points are: – you must have a brick airflow in the room with the fire to let fresh air in what can go up the chimney – some areas not allow the burning of fuel produces smoke (smoke free zones). But generally, you can buy smokeless fuel from the same retailer. – You must have a fender around the fire to make sure not to throw coals and burn your house down – unlikely if used properly. – And a similar note, there should be some distance from combustible material fire – that is, a wood stove burning, should be of stone or tiles. The speciallist will check to make sure the chimney does not require coating – prevents smoke passing through the wall and upstairs rooms – or in your neighbors house. Lining is expensive, but you may not need. You should also get the chimney sweep (about £ 50) before use and then at the beginning and end of each season (October to March). The electrical outlets near the fireplace is for electrical fires. I would like have these taken out by a licensed electrician, unless you want. In addition, children should be well with the fire, just do not let that throw everything it has for (pens may burst and send the hot ink flying all over the place) you may need a fire guard, but firebuilding is a useful skill to have (and dirty) to teach the basics and they will learn to respect the fire – but seriously, be careful with the young. In the ashtray, there were a couple of torches and some paper hygienic. The fire grate, there was another couple of lighters, and cover with newspaper fucked – not too tight. Cover this with wood sticks or twigs and sticks then cover the lot with coal. Light of the tissue in the ashtray and you must take very well. Leave open the air intake until pleasant fire, then close it slightly (to fire). sit back and enjoy. If it gets too hot then you can adjust the temperature with the built in control in the room – that is, open the door and let hot air to circulate around the house – cozy. you can put a log on the fire once it has started, but only put in the records that have dried up (keep in a dry place for a few months) otherwise it will spit out the fire hot chips. Our method of drying and records that do not do this. Also, the moisture will your chimney is not good and helps in the formation of creosote and tar. You can get free gas has been very windy. Just walk around the neighborhood and pick up branches falls and sticks. You will find large branches in forests that have fallen. You can cut and use them as tree trunks – but let dry for a few months first. Fireback find the original behind a gas stove, so the fire took off and the gas fire had been restored. it cost us about £ 500 in total and including the fire grate and an air brick in the wall as a new stone fireplace (and certification). Cowel also had a cap installed on the chimney (such as a hat) than for birds that fall from the chimnet and causing blockages – or worse, chimney fires. That £ 90 500 was included inthe above. If you already have the grill and bread, then it should not cost much to restore as we had to buy new ones. Good luck. Bax
